CPHR CPD hours: 1.5
Mental illness is on the rise in Canadian workplaces. While most employers recognize their accommodation obligations towards employees with mental illness under Human Rights legislation, these duties can be stressed when balancing productivity concerns, absenteeism or personality challenges. In this presentation, we discuss a challenging topic under human rights law, and explore the legalities of terminating employees with mental disabilities.
In this presentation, you will learn:
- Duty to accommodate
- Undue hardship
- Wrongful dismissal
- Strategies and risk mitigation
- Legal processes
Who should attend:
- While appropriate for all levels, this is a more advanced discussion of human rights and undue hardship.
David Brown, Kent Employment Law, is an individualist. His nonconformist mindset and passion for transformation set him apart in a profession steeped (and sometimes mired) in tradition. Where others spot problems, David sees possibility and promise. He understands and appreciates not just the practice but the business of law. Add to all this his disarming wit, bellowing voice, and lofty stature, and there’s no mistaking him in a crowd. A trusted workplace advisor to companies in British Columbia, David is firm in his belief that employment relationships should be mutually beneficial to employers and employees alike, founded on a relationship of trust and respect.
