Finding (and keeping) exceptional employees in today’s labour market is a familiar challenge for every employer. High staff turnover, and the subsequent time spent recruiting and training new team members, are regularly cited as a major cost of doing business.
In addition, customers and stakeholders also expect that the businesses they frequent will demonstrate their commitment to inclusion and diversity by employing a workforce that truly reflects the wider communities in which they live.
Is there a way employers can meet these expectations, and still satisfy their operational needs?
Yes! There is a largely untapped, unique pool of talented candidates that can positively contribute towards all of the above – and so much more.
Join us in exploring the many ways in which hiring and working alongside people with diverse-abilities can not only improve the bottom line, but fundamentally transform the culture of a workplace for the better.
In this presentation, you will learn:
- Explore current and historic attitudes/beliefs about hiring and working alongside people with diverse-abilities; dispel common myths and stereotypes
- Define the supported employment model for people with diverse-abilities, and how services work in partnership with businesses in community
- Develop your understanding of how HR professionals can play a pivotal role in raising awareness and increasing capacity for inclusion within their organizations
- Hear stories of success from the world of supported employment; consider how you may encourage similar practices within your own organization
Who should attend:
- HR professionals who are interested in learning about people with diverse-abilities at work, and exploring how they can develop their organization’s capacity to do the same.
James Miller, posAbilities Employment Service, has been working in the field of Supported Employment for the last 7 years, both in Canada and the UK. In his role as Assistant Manager at posAbilities Employment Service, James supports a team of 10 Employment Specialists to assist people with diverse-abilities to find and sustain competitive employment in their communities. In the last four years, posAbilities have witnessed hundreds stories of success.
The part of James’ work that he finds the most enjoyable is the constant potential for surprise. It is his privilege to meet many unique and inspiring people through this work. Each day, James is reminded of the depth of untapped potential that exists within each person; and as a result, their unlimited capacity for success.
