This is the process to complete for registrants of the Fall 2022 National Knowledge Exam (NKE) who wish to defer their exam to the next sitting.
If you register for the exam and an unforeseen circumstance prevents you from writing on that date, the following policy applies:
- An exam registrant may defer their exam to a future sitting at any point following registration up until October 21, 2022.
- Note: all deferrals after October 21, 2022 will forfeit their $140.00 seat fee for that exam. This fee will be charged again for the deferred sitting (no exceptions).
- After October 21, no deferrals will be allowed. In certain extenuating circumstances the deferral may be granted after this deadline. The provincial member association would grant exceptions (i.e. death in immediate family, serious illness with doctor’s note).
- A maximum of two deferrals are allowed per exam fee (i.e. the exam must be written on the third sitting or the exam fee would be sacrificed). If the third exam is not written and the exam fee is sacrificed, this is to be considered a ‘no show’ and the member association will be charged the full exam fee for that writer.
Cost to Defer
Deferrals incur a fee of $100 plus 15% HST ($115.00).
Note: In certain extenuating circumstances (such as a death in the family), the deferral fee may be waived. Supporting documentation will be required and must be submitted at the time of the deferral request (and note added to the RSVP Comments section when you complete the deferral registration and also send us the supporting deferral documentation - see below). We will make the determination and notify you.
How to Defer
Click the register link above. That will take you to the form to complete to process your deferral request.
You will also be prompted to pay for your deferral. Deferrals are not processed until payment is received. Payment must be received before the deferral deadline.
It is recommended that individuals wishing to defer make their payment when they complete their deferral registration here. It is important to have a copy of the address as it appears on the credit card statement of the card being used or the transaction will be declined (by your bank).
If you have an extenuating circumstance and are requesting a deferral without fee, you must outline the reason for the deferral in the RSVP comments when you register for the deferral. For instance, in the case of a deferral for bereavement, note bereavement and the relationship of the person (such as sibling, parent, etc). In the case of medical reasons, you do not need to indicate the particulars of the medical condition. Any deferral for extenuating circumstances must be accompanied by supporting documentation such as a medical note. Contact our office if you have questions on what is required to be submitted in the case of your particular extenuating circumstance.
Important Note: Exam deferrals are only processed upon receipt of the completed online deferral registration. Please click on the register for this event link above to complete the request. Deferrals cannot be completed using any other method.
Wondering if your registration for the deferral went through the system? You can check your online member profile to see your transactions. Once we review your deferral request, we will send you an email confirming the deferral has been processed.
