CPHR CPD hours: 1.0 Description St. John Ambulance's Opioid Poisoning Response Training (OPRT) Program provides a trauma-informed and de-stigmatized approach to opioid poisoning awareness. Many communities experience a high rate of opioid use (common in many prescription pain medications), but lack the support needed to manage and prevent poisonings. This program supports communities that experience barriers by providing free training and nasal naloxone kits. Course Objectives A free 60-minute class, delivered in-person with information on the following: - Stigma and Harm Reduction
- How Naloxone works in the brain
- How to respond to an Opioid Poisoning using Nasal and Intramuscular (IM)Naloxone
- Self-Care after a Traumatic Event
Course inclusions: Participants who complete the course will receive a FREE nasal naloxone kit ($250 value). Naloxone is a medicine that rapidly reverses the effects of opioids in the brain. It is an important tool that has the ability to aid in saving the life of someone experiencing an opioid poisoning. Kits may be picked up the CPHR Nova Scotia office. Pricing FREE
