About the Speakers:

Dan Hodgins is the Chief Executive Officer at Bergengren Credit Union for the past 18 years. Dan has held senior executive positions in the financial services sector (Trust Companies and Credit Unions) for over 30 years. He has been recognized in the Credit Union system as innovative, aggressive and a motivational leader who has a gift for selecting talented individuals. Since 1993, Dan has tripled the size of the organization both in assets and profitability. He was instrumental in achieving a successful amalgamation with New Glasgow Credit Union in 2007.

Dan has held numerous Board positions locally, provincially and nationally. He is presently a council member of the Credit Union Executive Society for North America representing Eastern Canada. Through his leadership, Bergengren Credit Union has received numerous awards for innovation, co-operative values, environmental sustainability, leadership, best places to work and excellence in business awards.

Layla Khalil, MBA, CHRP, is the Human Resources Manager at Bergengren Credit Union. Layla comes from a diverse international background, having lived and worked in several countries.

Laylas passion is people and helping them realize their full potential. Since joining Bergengren Credit Union in 2007, she has introduced many employee-focused initiatives, among them: implementation of a new performance management system and compensation structure; launch of a relationship management initiative; focus on training and development; employee recognition program; employee satisfaction survey and wellness program.

In her spare time, Layla enjoys traveling and learning about other cultures and volunteering on various community initiatives. She currently serves on the membership committee with HRANS and on the Board of Festival Antigonish.
