Fast Tracking Leadership Development
Most organizations are facing increasing pressures in attempting to success in today's economy. Over the last several years, a multitude of events have exacerbated these pressures -- the economic crash in 2007 following by a slow recovery; aging demographics; competitive markets for customers and talent; and the fast pace of technology and social media changes.
Board responsibilities are increasing in ensuring corporate results and sustainable and high levels of ethics are maintained. Boards are placing greater responsibilities and demands on management teams at a time when there is intense competition for leadership talent; limited resources for training and development; changing career expectations of early and mid employees; and limited mechanisms to transition institutional knowledge. Leaders in organizations of all sizes and across all sectors have a crucial role to play in navigating the way through these challenges. Human Resources Teams also have a vital role in ensuring a continual availability of leadership talent. About the Speaker
Barbara Meens Thistle, Chief Human Resources Officer,
Emera Inc., Halifax, Nova Scotia
Barbara was appointed Chief Human Resources Officer for
Emera, and Vice President Human Resources, Nova Scotia Power on November 25,
2011. Prior to this role, Barbara served as General Manager, Human Resources,
Nova Scotia Power. Before joining Nova Scotia Power in 2009, Barbara was the
National Director, Human Resources for EastLink and, before that, spent
seventeen years in Vancouver and Calgary. She has held senior positions with BC
Hydro, Intrawest, Westcoast Energy (now Spectra Energy) and VanCity Credit
Union.
A native of Nova Scotia, Barbara grew up in Halifax. She
is active in the national Human Resources community as a member of the
Conference Board of Canada - Council of Human Resources Executives (East) and
the Canadian Electricity Association (CEA)- Senior Human Resources Committee.
She is also a Certified Human Resources Professional (CHRP). Barb is a Board
Member of the Halifax Chamber of Commerce and a past Board Member of the HR
Association of Nova Scotia.
Barbara resides in Halifax, Nova Scotia.

Payment Terms
Payment is due by the
registration deadline which is Wednesday, January 23, 2013. Payments can be
made conveniently online by credit card at the time of registration or by
cheque received by the registration deadline. Cheques must be
received by the registration deadline (January 23) by HRANS at 84 Chain Lake
Drive, Suite 103, Halifax, NS B3S 1A2.
Cancellation Policy
A full refund, less a $25
administration fee (plus tax), will be issued for cancellations received in
writing prior to Friday, January 11, 2013 at 12:00 noon. Those who
make reservations and do not attend will be required to pay for the full
workshop fee. Cancellations received in writing prior to noon on Friday,
January 11, 2013 will only be charged the administration
fee. Substitutions are permitted up to the day of the event.
Member/non-member rates will be applied to the substitutions. This
cancellation policy applies regardless of date of
registration. Registrations after the cancellation deadline are
non-refundable.
