Winning the Battle With Conflict
Everyone expects you to solve their problems. Could you be better at resolving conflicts
and keeping relationships intact? How
well do you deal with employee disputes?
How do you deal with upset and stubborn people? Do you help employees negotiate when they
have problems? Are you expected to
implement people strategies that support the organization’s business
objectives? Do you find yourself playing
the role of a linchpin - working with finance and operations to help drive
business? Our training will provide you
with the tools you need to excel at the tasks you face every day. Since 1994, more than 30,000 business
professionals (many of them from the HR field) have turned to us to learn new
approaches to conflict management. We
have conducted programs for the HRPA and for HR groups worldwide.
What is Alternative Dispute Resolution and How Can It Help You and Your Company
ADR processes provide practical ways to resolve workplace
disputes. Two of the processes you will
master are principled negotiation and interest-based mediation. Principled negotiation, developed at Harvard,
is an approach to negotiating that allows you to look behind the positions and
focus on the underlying interests in order to find a solution that makes sense
and maintains relationships. In an
interest-based mediation, a mediator assists disputing parties to
negotiate. Mediation can help resolve
conflict while re-establishing trust and preventing damage to
relationships. Mediation can save time
and reduce financial and emotional costs.
Due to the ever-increasing costs of litigation, employers
are increasingly turning to ADR as a solution. Labour disputes, wage and hour,
and discrimination claims in particular are increasingly common and employers
need to take steps to stem the tide of conflict and lawsuits. ADR is a valuable and effective means to
accomplish this goal. HR should play an
active role in using ADR processes, by acting as a facilitator between
disputing parties and in promoting the employer’s position.
Learning Objectives
After completing the 4 day ADR workshop, you will be able
to:
• resolve
disputes while preserving relationships
• negotiate
better deals and help others negotiate
• deal with
difficult and emotional people
• implement a
process to mediate disputes
The training will help you learn new approaches to issues
such as: disciplinary matters, termination of employment, timeliness of
grievances, employee/employee disputes, and effective collective bargaining.
Hands On Training
Experience has taught us that the best way for people to
develop conflict management, negotiation, and communication skills is through
practice. The ADR Workshop involves case
studies, thought-provoking discussions, small group exercises, lectures,
demonstrations and videos. Our training
is practical and immediately applicable.
