Offered as part of the Dalhousie University, Faculty of Health Professions Health Institute, this professional development full-day workshop is designed for disability case managers, early career disability management professionals and students. This workshop will also be beneficial to all stakeholders in the disability management and return-to-work process: those who work in human resources, vocational rehabilitation, workplace health and rehabilitation therapy. Extensive training or experience in disability management is not a prerequisite.

The workshop will focus on honing communication skills to better address the psycho-social aspects of disability management. The workshop will be delivered with interactive components and from differing perspectives, including supportive, non-medical models of disability management. Key topics will include: the role of the family physician in timely return to work; interviewing and intentional communication techniques; and effective management of high volume disability management caseloads.
