In this training session, senior level HR professionals who understand the basic requirements of workplace investigations will learn how to conduct investigations in a way that attempts to do no further harm to workplace relationships and takes advantage of opportunities to repair and even enhance those relationships.
Learning Objectives:
- Review the underlying purposes of policy, statutory and common law requirements for safe, healthy and respectful workplaces.
- Discuss organizational values that align with the relevant policy, statutory and legal objectives.
- Learn about the dynamics of conflict.
- Learn how to conduct each step of the workplace investigation in a manner that takes into account the dynamics of conflict and that furthers the values that underpin safe, healthy and respectful workplace relationships.
About the Facilitator:
Gail Gatchalian, Pink Larkin
Gail practices employment, labour, and administrative and human rights law with Pink Larkin in Halifax. Gail has particular experience in education law and appears regularly before administrative and statutory tribunals on behalf of teacher unions. Gail also acts as a third-party neutral; she is a Nova Scotia Human Rights Board of Inquiry Chair, and provides workplace investigation and mediation services. Gail is the Vice-Chair of the CBA National Labour & Employment Law Section. Gail has been on the organizing committee for the annual CBA Administrative, Labour & Employment Law Conference since 2011. She is the Chair of the CBA-Nova Scotia Branch Equity Committee. Gail is a member of the Canadian Association for Practical Study of Law in Education (CAPSLE).

The registration deadline is Thursday, January 19, 2017, at 12:00 pm. Please note that registrations are not possible after online registration has closed. Registration cannot be purchased at the door.
Payment Terms
Payment is due by the registration deadline which is Thursday, January 19, 2017 or within 30 days of your registration (whichever is earlier). Payments may be made conveniently online at time of registration by Visa/Mastercard or by cheque received by the registration deadline. Cheques must be received by the registration deadline (January 19) by HRANS at 84 Chain Lake Drive, Suite 103, Halifax, NS B3S 1A2. Registrations January 5th or later must be paid online at time of registration.
If paying online by Visa or Mastercard, you must have the billing address exactly as it appears on the credit card statement or the transaction will be declined. This is a security feature for your protection.
Cancellation Policy
A full refund, less a $40+HST processing fee, will be issued for cancellations received in writing prior to Thursday, January 5, 2017 at 12:00 noon. Those who make reservations and do not attend will be required to pay for the full session fee. Cancellations received in writing prior to 12:00 noon on Thursday, January 5, 2017 will only be charged the processing fee. Substitutions are permitted up to the business day before the event (for substitutions, the registrant must advise our office of their replacement in writing by 12 noon on January 26). Member/non-member rates will be applied to the substitutions. This cancellation policy applies regardless of date of registration. Registrations after the cancellation deadline are non-refundable.
