Description Leading Change at Work: Addressing Intimate Partner & Domestic Violence This workplace training, presented by the Transition House Association of Nova Scotia (THANS), focuses on intimate partner violence (IPV) and domestic violence (DV) as critical workplace safety issues. The program aims to:
Recognize the signs and impacts of IPV/DV in the workplace. Respond safely and support colleagues experiencing violence. Build a workplace culture of safety, support, and accountability.
The training provides practical strategies for real-life situations and promotes a whole-of-society approach to ending gender-based violence in Nova Scotia. Education and training are emphasized as the first steps toward prevention and fostering respect.
About the Presenters Krystal Lowe is the Education and Prevention Lead at the Transition House Association of Nova Scotia (THANS), where she designs and delivers evidence-based, trauma-informed training for frontline practitioners responding to intimate partner and domestic violence, as well as public education initiatives. She holds a BA in Psychology and a Master’s in Applied Psychology (Forensic).
Prior to THANS, Krystal was the Sexual Violence Prevention Education Coordinator at Saint Mary’s University and a Research Analyst with the Corrections Research Unit at Public Safety Canada. She has contributed to national projects on sexual violence and coercion, risk assessment, and offender profiling, and has published research on domestic violence disclosure and correctional psychology.
Drawing on lived experience and professional expertise, Krystal centers connection and resilience in her work, equipping professionals to identify, prevent, and respond to gender-based violence while fostering safer, more compassionate communities.
