About the Facilitators Jason MacLean - President, Nova Scotia Government & General Employees Union Jason MacLean was re-elected to a second term as President of the Nova Scotia Government & General Employees Union, Nova Scotia’s largest public sector union, in May 2019. Born and raised in the community of Whitney Pier, Cape Breton, Nova Scotia, Jason grew up understanding the importance of diversity, fairness and equality. His mother is a community leader, a former school board representative and a retired Early Childhood Educator, and his father is a retired firefighter. In 1995, Jason began his career in the public service as a Corrections Officer first at the Cumberland Correctional Facility in Amherst and then at the Cape Breton Correctional Facility in Sydney. Jason became a leader in his Union Local and soon was elected to the NSGEU Board of Directors, Provincial Executive, and became President in 2016. As President, he strives to be a leader focused on solving problems and making the province a fairer, more equitable place to work and live. Jason is also a leader within the larger labour community. He serves as the 1st Vice President of the Nova Scotia Federation of Labour and the Executive Vice President of the National Executive Board for the National Union of Public & General Employees (NUPGE). Jason was selected to attend the Governor General’s Canadian Leadership Conference Program in 2015 and is a graduate of the distinguished Harvard Trade Union program. When he is not advocating on behalf of NSGEU members and the working people of Nova Scotia, Jason enjoys spending quality time with his family: he is married and the father of three children: Tasia, Tyler, and Jalen. Roshanak Sadeghi-Zadeh - Director, People and Organization Development, IWK Roshanak Sadeghi-Zadeh (she/her) is currently Director, People and Organization Development at Izaak Walton Killam Health (IWK). Before joining the IWK, she was the Manager of Human Resources at the Halifax Public Libraries where she led several initiatives with a focus in equity, diversity, and inclusion. Prior to this role, she worked at Housing Nova Scotia in Halifax and Bombardier Transportation in Toronto in HR generalist, training, leadership development and occupational health roles in highly unionized environments. Roshanak has a Master of Science in Physics and started her career as a high school science teacher. She immigrated to Canada from Iran in the early 2000s, landing in Toronto. She pursued her post-graduate education in Human Resources Management, Adult Education, Lean six sigma, and change management. Although Toronto has a special place in her heart, she quickly embraced Nova Scotia as home, appreciating the beautiful and peaceful nature of the Maritimes. She adopts an intersectional approach, as her work aims to cultivate an environment that celebrates all aspects of diversity. She strives to contribute to the efforts in making Nova Scotia a welcoming and inclusive province, one organization at a time. Roshanak also finds joy in volunteering within her communities beyond the workplace. She serves as a Board Member and mentor with the Chartered Professionals Human Resources of Nova Scotia (CPHR-NS) and a volunteer with Immigrant Services Association of Nova Scotia (ISANS). When she isn’t working or volunteering, she likes to spend her time with her family traveling, gardening, and knitting. Lindsey Harrington - Moderator - Relationship, Education, and Awareness Officer, CMS CMS hired Lindsey Harrington as Relationship, Education, and Awareness Officer in 2016. She became their Strategic Initiatives Lead in 2020. In this role, she focuses on strategic projects, such as outreach, engagement, evaluation, education, and special programming. Prior to joining CMS, Lindsey owned her own consulting company in St. John’s, NL, completing work in the oil and gas, agriculture, and not-for-profit sectors, in areas such as facilitation, project management, evaluation, and event planning.
