Canada's workforce is fast-changing, and every leader needs to be aware. Over the past 5 years, Canada has welcomed over 1.5 million immigrants mostly under the economic category. Roughly 75% of population growth comes from immigration and by 2036, immigrants will represent up to 30% of Canada's population, compared with 20.7% in 2011.
To remain competitive and achieve industry leadership, leaders must learn to not only welcome educated & experienced immigrants into their workforce but also acquire the necessary skills to deliver results through their culturally diverse teams. Understand the next steps needed to start taking action Nova Scotia Department of Labour, Skills and Immigration Session: Immigration: Navigating the process Finding skilled labour is a challenge for most organizations in Canada today, one that is going to continue as the baby boomer generation transitions from the labour market to retirement. Welcoming newcomers into your organization is not only a way to fill your labour gaps, but it also brings more diversity to your workforce, which research has shown increases profitability. Nova Scotia has a goal to increase its population to two million people by 2060, strategically and thoughtfully. In this session, learn about the various immigration pathways available in Nova Scotia; resources available for employers to help you navigate the process; requirements for compliance; and some common challenges employers encounter. Will Yang  | Will Yang arrived in Halifax from China in 2015. He then completed the Screen Arts Program at NSCC, specializing in videography and photography. In 2017, he started the videography production agency Will Film Inc. and the marketing firm Differo Ltd. Both agencies have developed inclusive marketing content and projects for clients including Halifax Shopping Centre, Tourism Nova Scotia, and NSLC. In 2021, he produced a film called The Matrix CODE featuring a project to help young African Nova Scotian men learn coding skills for the job market. In 2022, his Diverse Lunar New Year campaign with Halifax Shopping Centre was featured on CBC. His “inclusive marketing” approach has attracted new markets to clients such as the Halifax Shopping Centre and Tourism Nova Scotia. |
