Description

CNIB’s Come to Work program aims to teach organizations just how resourceful and competitive individuals with sight loss can be. In partnering with organizations, we seek to help companies realize and fulfill their equity, diversity, and inclusion goals with support all the way from learning about vision loss in the workplace to assisting with accommodations or retention.

Kristina Pappas is the outreach coordinator in the Come to Work program for the Atlantic region. She supports a talent pool of individuals with vision loss who are ready to get to work and are already working. She also connects with organizations such as CPHRNS to provide information about sight loss, accommodations, and inclusive workplace cultures.

About the Presenter

Kristina Pappas, Atlantic Outreach Coordinator, Come to Work program

Kristina Pappas is the Atlantic outreach coordinator within the Come to Work program at CNIB. She is passionate about breaking down barriers for equity and equality. With CNIB she is focused on making partnerships with organizations and spreading knowledge to breakdown stereotypes and share inclusive hiring and workplace strategies especially regarding those with Sight Loss. She is always happy to chat, answer questions and further the work of IDEA (Inclusion, Diversity, Equity and Accessibility).

Rachel Kuipers

Rachel has spent the last twenty years working in various roles at the Nova Scotia Community College (NSCC) and Toronto Metropolitan University (TMU) with the primary focus on helping adults build their skill sets to secure the career in their chosen profession.  In addition to supporting students, she worked with industry, public sectors, and not-for-profit organizations to understand the importance of employing students for field, co-op and clinical experiences that benefit them as employers and the students.
In 2000, she travelled overseas to join Volunteer Services Overseas (VSO), a UK not-for-profit organization, to live and work in Albania to support the Dairy industry in providing safe and healthy dairy products for Albanians. This proved to be a life-changing experience where she got the opportunity to work with the WHO (World Health Organization), Land O'Lakes International her Albanian colleagues and ex-pats which she'll never forget. 
Besides her career highlights, she lives in the Hydrostone area of Halifax with a rescue cat and dog.  She is a Mount Allison University alumnus and graduated the same year as Ian Hanomansing (CBC The National).
