As professionals, we are trained advisors. People come to us for answers, and they expect us to have them. When our team members come to us for answers, what do we do? If we are like many leaders, chances are, we give them the answers.

As Maimonides said, "Give a man a fish and you feed him for a day; teach a man to fish and you feed him for a lifetime." While providing the answer (giving them the fish) may be effective in the short term, our long term organizational success is best supported by growing and developing our team (teaching them to fish); that is, coaching them effectively to build their problem solving and other critical skills.

Whether you are an experienced leader or newly managing a team, coaching your employees for performance enhancement can lead to productivity improvements and other benefits. Effective coaching supports employees by challenging them to look at issues from different perspectives, identify options and implement solutions.

During this workshop, we will use interactive and reflective exercises designed to identify practical skills and tactics you may apply in your daily work. Case studies will be explored with the goal of outlining strategies and practical approaches to support your role as a leader and as a coach.
