Eleanor Beaton Radical Conviction: The Surprising Secret To Getting And Owning A Seat At the Table Modern professionals are inundated with tips and tricks to get a seat at the table. But if you don’t know how to own that seat, you’ll never make the impact you were born to make. By learning to show up WHOLE, with a deep radical conviction in your worth, modern leaders can rise to meet the challenges of even the toughest assignments…without burning out.
In this inspiring and practical keynote, Eleanor Beaton will guide you through a powerful, emotional and practical method to help you get your seat…and own it. Eleanor Beaton is an award-winning entrepreneur, journalist and speaker. Her company, Safi Media, is on a mission to 2x the number of female founders who sustainably scale past $1M by 2030. She was the winner of the 2021 Hector Jacques Awards for Entrepreneurial Excellence from the Black Business Initiative. And in 2017, she was a finalist for the National Business Book Award – Canada’s top honour for business books. The former chair of the Visiting Women’s Executive Exchange Program at Yale University, Eleanor has been featured in publications such as Forbes, Huffington Post and The Globe and Mail.

Bill Howatt Self Care: the Number One Protective Factor The most important thing a leader can do for themselves and their organization is being able to regulate their emotions and maintain their emotional wellbeing.
This session will provide leaders with a framework for leadership self-care. The framework provides practical guidance for what and how leaders can improve or maintain their emotional well-being. Leaders who discover how to flourish are more prepared to cope with constant challenges, stress and change than leaders who are languishing. Leaders who learn how to self-regulate their emotions, cope with stress through adopting self -care daily practices that promote their mental health are more likely to show up each day ready to meet the demands of the day. Dr. Bill Howatt, founder and CEO of Howatt HR, refers to himself as a behavioural scientist with a keen curiosity for how employees and employers can work together to reduce mental harm and promote mental health in the workplace. He is known internationally and is one of Canada’s top experts in workplace psychological health and safety. Dr. Bill is on the CSA OHS Standards Steering Committee and Chair of the CSA Standard Z1008: Management of Substance Related Impairment in the Workplace. He is also the co-creator of the Psychologically Safe Workplace Awards.

Julie Develin Invisible Ink: Using the Psychological Contract to Retain Talent Within the words “written” in invisible ink are important agreements between the employer and the employee that shape the relationship, thus affecting employee experience, productivity, satisfaction, and several other important metrics. If you work in HR--or if you manage people--you’ve entered a contract that is in effect from day one of the employment association. This contract is not written, and it cannot be seen, signed, or notarized. In this presentation we will discuss the concept of the psychological contract at work and explore the (often forgotten and misunderstood) exchange relationship that has a myriad of impacts from both the employee and employer viewpoints. Armed with different insights into the “whys” of employee behavior and reactions, you’ll leave this session with an action plan to assist stakeholders in building awareness, and you’ll become familiar with the effect the psychological contract has on attracting and retaining talent! An expert on employee relations, workplace flexibility, and workforce development, Julie Develin is a Sr. Partner, HCM Advisory at UKG, a global leader in workforce cloud solutions. With more than 17 years of experience as an HR executive focused on improving workplace culture and enhancing the employee experience, Develin helps organizations worldwide implement strategic employee technology and workplace initiatives to enhance productivity, improve communication, and increase satisfaction across the workforce. Develin holds an M.S. in human resources development from McDaniel College, where she continues to work today as an adjunct professor in the human resources management and human services management programs.
Tina Varughese The Human Side of Unconscious Bias First impressions, positive or negative, are made in seven seconds or less. We all make quick assessments of others without even realizing it. We are not born with bias. Biases are formed by past situations, experiences, background and culture. Unconscious biases typically exist towards gender, race, religion, sexual orientation, age, disability (both physical and mental), and weight. Most of us will say “I see people for who they are” but do we? Unconscious biases affect and impact decision making both professionally and personally with real impact. Recognizing, managing and mitigating unconscious bias promotes diversity and inclusion. Diversity and inclusion drives innovation, increases productivity, and stimulates creativity while promoting a healthy, happy, engaging workplace culture. Named one of Canada’s Top 10 Notable Speakers by Ignite Magazine, Tina cleverly tackles crucial topics, like diversity and inclusion, in today’s complex climate. Tina’s work has been featured in the Toronto Star, TSN, CBC Eyeopener, Adrenaline Magazine, and Alberta Venture. Clients include Pfizer Canada, Kraft Heinz, Hockey Canada, Hyundai Canada, Canadian College of Health Leaders and Canada Life. She is the President of the Canadian Association of Professional Speakers (Calgary).
